FaithView, For Storm Riders:
“Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds.”– Psalms 72:18

God has never asked me to jump off a cliff…How about you?

Has he ever asked you to cut off your right arm with a promise of growing you a new one?

Has he asked you to build an altar and to prepare to sacrifice one of your children with the indication he will stop you before you actually do it?

Me either…

He’s never told me I had to learn how to fly or magically disappear and reappear. He’s never told me to go a whole week without air.

In other words, he has never asked me to jump through a ridiculous hoop.

He has asked me to do things which are humbling and initially seem insane to me…but when I look at the task the way he wants me to, I see his plan is quite feasible.

Do you trust God? I mean we know, with much certainty, he is not going to ask us to cut off our arm or deliberately ask us to attempt to go weeks without air.

We trust God in that vein, but do we trust him with our hearts?

He hasn’t asked me to jump off a cliff, but there are times I believe I would rather jump off the cliff than do the thing he’s asked of me.

You see when God asks something of me, it’s not my right arm he wants…it’s my heart–which is my attitude, my disposition, my fears, my strengths, me.

I don’t want to trust God with “Me” because then I run the risk of my real attitudes being exposed. My disposition towards people…my fears. I run the risk of him having total authority and say in my life.

“Oh God, please give me a cliff to jump off, but just don’t ask for any more of my heart. Don’t ask me to surrender me. I’ll do anything else from dying Easter eggs to passing out blankets to smelly people, to giving more money. Just please, leave my heart alone.”

Our heart is much bigger than the oddly shaped oblong thing lying underneath our chest.
Our hearts, as has often been said, are deep places, vast universes, and infinite in capacity.

We give what we recognize to God, but the further we walk with him the clearer we see our hearts…what is in them… and he asks for more…because there is more to give…alas (love that word) more to surrender.

“We are not uncertain of God, but uncertain of what He is going to do next.”
— Oswald Chambers

It’s too elementary to sum this by understanding God as being more than fire insurance. We know this.

It comes down to exposing and handing over all the compartments of my heart to him because I have to trust…and I should trust…and I need to trust…Him who held back nothing from me, him who gave Jesus for me.

There is no intention here to say our relationship with God has to be deeply intellectual or, heaven forbid, crafted and cultivated in seminary…but we have a responsibility to grow in grace and come to realize salvation is where it begins…Where does it end?

Well, that’s the joy of it… If I trust him.

He does the marvelous things–the flying, the healing, the miracles, the resurrecting. I just have to trust, have faith and invest all the highways and byways of my heart in him.

…And experience the marvelous.

Boom!
