Burbank Faith Today: April 3, 2017

We would love to tell you who Pastor Bill was talking to on the phone when he made this face…but we don’t want him to suffer any physical injury.

Sunday Services: 10:30 AM
505 South Sixth St. Burbank, CA

FaithView, For Storm Riders:
“Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”—2 Corinthians 5:5

God has made us for life with him.

We weren’t created to be separated from God. We were created to know and love God–to have a relationship with him. The Holy Spirit is the deposit reminding us, reminding through all the toils of this life we go through—the ups and downs, the good and the bad—that we were made for him.

Beautiful! I’m down with the get-down on this!

Cool, but then I heard the voice of my old friend; “Pastor, one scripture but with many applications.”

I read this Scripture again, and this thought landed on my heart.

God has made me. God has made us. This is not trivial.

Were we created by God? Yes.

Did God create us with particular gifts and abilities? Yes.

Does this remind me/us that we have been placed into this world, into this time, into this moment for a specific reason by the creator of the universe? Absolutely!

You might find this impossible to believe, but even the best of God’s people have days where they wonder, “Why?”

“Why is this happening?” … “Why is this going on?” … “Why do I have to deal with this?”

Fair questions, I’ve asked them—we all have.

I ask, and then I take a moment…and the Spirit—the Holy Spirit that he has left as a deposit in me—reminds my heart and soul that I was made for this moment, for this time.

If you’ve ever played baseball, this is like having your coach say, “Swing away!”

If you’ve ever played basketball, this is like having your coach say, “Keep shooting!”

…But it’s not a coach; it’s the creator of the universe—Jesus Christ—saying, “I put you here for this purpose, for this time, for my glory. I won’t abandon you.”

How do we go to someone’s deathbed? How do we walk into an ICU? How do we know what to say when someone is hurting and in pain?

We respond with confidence, knowing we were made for this moment. The Spirit that he has caused to dwell in us, our testimony, these are the weapons we enter all situations with and bring victory.

Boom!
