FaithView, For Storm Riders:
“Hear me, you who know what is right, you people who have my law in your hearts; do not fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults.”—Isaiah 51:7

Recently, someone thought they were taking a shot at me by calling me a non-conformist. I don’t know what makes you a non-conformist…but I do know that it has always been easy for me NOT to go along wth the crowd.

Of course, it always eliminated the first excuse any teen makes when busted for doing something wrong. “Everyone else was doing it…”

I never and have never gone along with the crowd to fit in nor to get along.

So does that make me a non-conformist? Or does it identify me with the Scripture above? “…do not fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults.”

Non-conformist? Nah. Knowing the sound of the Lord’s voice/understanding what he has placed on my heart? Absolutely.

I respect the fear, power, awe—magnitude—of the Lord a whole lot more than I’ve ever feared my friends, my family or the people I’ve worked with. Kind of like being nine during the summer, with the sun going down, and having your mom scream your name out the front door to get your attention.

No other voice carried the authority of Mom’s voice.

But how did Mom—better still—the Lord, get that place of priority in my life? By demonstrations of love, demonstrations of redemption and by demonstration that, above all others, they cared for my future and my life.

Prayer reminds me of this…The Scripture reminds me of this…(Just like Mom bringing home a paycheck, just like Mom taking care of the house)…every single day it causes me to always look to him.

The Lord has made what is right very clear to me–as he did in the Garden at the beginning–why should I give ear to another voice? A voice that has neither loved, redeemed nor cared for me?

The question we have to ask ourselves is, whose voice speaks loudest in our lives? Who are we seeking to please? Whom do we fear?

Boom!
