FaithView, For Storm Riders:
“I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior.”—Isaiah 43:11

Put that in your pipe, and smoke it, kid.

Yes, of course, we don’t want—nor need—to go looking for another savior. I mean who, in any sort of earthly frame, is going to fit that build? Who, other than Christ, is going to have the nail prints in their hands or the wound in their side?

Anything is possible, but I don’t think we can be vamped into trusting in another physical savior. What I do believe, though, is we can be seduced and convinced that salvation can have a different face.

The face won’t look like Christ, but we’ll come to believe, cope and treat something else as if it were our savior. We’ll do it with our careers, we’ll do it with our relationships, we’ll do it with our habits and we’ll do it wth our causes.

We’ll replace the work of the cross, the work of our savior, for a pseudo salvation. Something that will trick us into believing it can provide completion, self-worth, value, importance and, even, everlasting joy.

But look to this Scripture, apart from our God—who is Jesus Christ—there is no other savior.

Scripture gives an excellent account of King counting the cost—doing the arithmetic—before going to war to see if it is worthwhile. We would be wise to give such consideration when looking to place our joy, hope and future in the hands of someone who didn’t rise out of the tomb after three days.

Boom!

…In 1559, French-born Swiss reformer John Calvin wrote in a letter: “If your labors, where you now are, are sterile, and if here an abundant harvest awaits them, which is the most forcible tie? the one by which God draws you hither, or the one that detains you there?”

…In 1937, English Bible expositor Arthur W. Pink wrote in a letter: “Neither the nearness nor the remoteness of Christ’s return is a rule to regulate us in the ordering of our temporal affairs. Spiritual preparedness is the great matter.”
