Scripture For The Day:
“But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, your are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. ‘God will give to each person according to what he has done.’”—Romans 2:5-6
It’s become almost cliche to say, “holding on to your anger doesn’t work.”
Of course, it doesn’t work…Of course, there are great arguments where anger is justified—Jesus overturning the money-changers in the Temple—but quite often we miss the other aspect/consequence of anger.
When we give in to anger, not that initial flash that hits us when something goes wrong, but that anger we hold on to and refuse to let go of, it has an effect on us. Dr. Phil, probably, can better explain why anger feels good enough for us cling to, but perhaps anger gives us focus, gives us direction, anger might even give us purpose…so there is this (dubious, I know) reward that comes with anger. But we know this is a lie.
If sin wasn’t enticing…then it wouldn’t be sin. If all sin looked like food from Burger Death—I mean Burger King—then we wouldn’t have any temptation at all, but it doesn’t. Sin is attractive; sin is a rush, sin gives a very temporary feeling of control and power.
While it’s not sex, drugs, and rock & roll, doesn’t anger attract us? Doesn’t anger give us a rush? Doesn’t anger give us a—temporary—feeling of power and control?
So what are we missing in terms of consequence? “Yeah, anger is sinful…thanks Pastor Joe any other newsflashes you want to share?”
Only this, harboring and cultivating our anger is a direct rejection of the work of Jesus on the cross.
SAY WHAT!
I said hanging on to our anger—no matter how justified you might feel it is—is a rejection of Christ.
The work of the cross was about forgiveness. Jesus in the moment seeks the forgiveness of those who are crucifying him…Jesus in the eternal gets nailed to the cross so we can be forgiven of our sins.
So your hard-heartedness, your bitterness, your stubbornness not only are they doing something ugly to your face…they are destroying your soul…and your spirit…and putting you in direct opposition to God.
Boom!

Miss Lori is all good!
Lori Barrett Update:
Earlier this week it was posted on FB that Miss Lori was sick. Well, it turns out that a “Lori” was sick but it wasn’t our “Miss Lori.”…A phone call came to Melissa Marak’s house and she, along with her sister Janeice spoke to a woman, who was extremely sick. They thought they were talking to Lori Barrett…This “Lori” on the phone knew them…they spent several minutes on the phone…and said we/the church would pray for her…Turns out no one knows who this woman was…Melissa and Janeice dialed the number back and it was no longer in service…Interesting mystery…but the good news is our “Miss Lori” is healthy and strong.
