Scripture For The Day:
“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.”—1 Corinthians 2:4-5
Sometimes you wish you were younger. Sometimes you wish you had the body and years in front of you so you can apply the knowledge and experience you’ve attained through the years.
Then you rejoice that you are the age you are and have the experience that you have. You rejoice because this gives you a better ability to discern and test all things. This is my 28th year in ministry, and it’s been amazing to see the fads, the faces and the movements that have come and gone.
Every one of them from “Youth Alive” to “Student-Led” to buzz expressions like “Post-Modern” to “What Would Jesus Do?”…to all of the stuff we have today. I’m not saying all of these things were bad; I’m not saying all of these things were good…but they come, and they go, and they come, and they go…
Men fade, movements come to a stop…but faith resting fully on God never goes away. It never gets old…The church universal doesn’t talk much about it anymore because the church universal is really keen on being loved and accepted…but the prime directive to the church—the church universal—is to preach the Gospel.
Salvation and obedience matter…I know that seems odd…but that is the heart of the business we are in…and if sharing this Gospel is not at the heart of the business we are in then we need to put a sign out that says: “Under New Management.”
When you trust in the Lord and his scripture…you don’t ever have to worry about what men think, say or do.
