Scripture For The Day:
“But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, ‘May the Lord, who is good, pardon everyone who sets his heart on seeking God—The Lord, the God of his fathers—even if he is not clean according to the rules of the sanctuary.’ And the Lord heard Hezekiah and healed the people.”—2 Chronicles 30:18-20

Of course, the scripture we’re most familiar with in expressing this sentiment is Romans 5:8 (…”While we were still sinners”…) Only in Churchianity is the search continuous, ongoing and endless in seeking ways to separate us from God.

Jump through this hoop, jump through that hoop and live in fear that the gates to Heaven are going to slam in your face on some loophole or technicality. Finding truth is remarkably simple, but we (& Churchianity) always complicate this because we are—quite often—so full of ourselves. That somehow we are going to make life with God more profound and meaningful by inserting tasks and forms of group-think into the equation of coming to know the Lord.

Gag.

The passage above tells us that the Lord knows our hearts and that if we earnestly seek him…earnestly meaning we are striving to follow his word…he will heal us. He will save us. Don’t look for this in seminary, don’t look for this in a denomination, don’t look for this in the Constitution, don’t look for from Billy Graham…look for it in the place where hope and truth are always found. Look for it in the Bible.

Boom!

…In 1865 Lewis E. Jones, American YMCA director, is born. Jones was also a writer of hymns, and his most enduring contribution (which he both wrote and composed) was “Power in the Blood.”

…In 1950 American missionary and martyr Jim Elliot wrote in his journal: “Sin in a Christian makes God seem distant, deaf. In the body, sin saps animation, as cancer. In the soul, sin stifles the affections; as corrosion in the spirit, sin solidifies the attitudes, as a callous.”
