Scripture For The Day:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”—Romans 15:13
Funny what experience (age) does to your personal definition of happiness. At one point in your life happiness is being with your friends, playing ball, going to Disneyland. At a later point in life, happiness becomes something else.
I like the word “joy” but it is the word “peace” that gets me in this passage. We are always searching for things that we think are going to make us happy—activity, career, people—when happiness is really found in peace.
The tranquility—peace that passes understanding—that comes with knowing the “God of Hope.” And the more you dive into him, the more you come to understand that it is not a peace that is spread thin and easily broken…but the closer you walk with God, the more trust you place in his Word…you find that it is an abundant, overflowing, peace that he provides.
And this peace allows you to rise above everything…everything…this world throws at you. I believe it was Jesus that told us (John 16:33) that in the world we would have trouble but to be of good cheer because he has overcome the world.
Or…in other words…stop worrying about what the world is going to do to you…and the let the world start worrying about what you are going to do to it.

Did You Know?
On this date in..
…1943 The Allied troopship S.S. Dorchester was torpedoed by a German sub and went down with a loss of 600 lives. As it sank, four chaplains gave up their lifejackets to shipmates, thereby also perishing in the icy waters. The bravery of Rev. Clark Poling (Dutch Reformed), Rev. George Lansing Fox (Methodist), Father John Washington (a Catholic priest) and Alexander David Goode (a Jewish rabbi) led Congress afterward to mark February 3rd as “Four Chaplains Day.”
…1959, rising American rock stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson were killed when their chartered Beechcraft Bonanza plane crashes in Iowa a few minutes after takeoff from Mason City on a flight headed for Moorehead, Minnesota.
