Scripture For The Day:
“Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.”—2 Corinthians 1:9
First time you read the passage around this verse you get the idea that Paul is trying to encourage people through hardship. It works.
Second time you read it you see that he’s preaching/teaching about Christ. He has to be because he’s talking about raising the dead. It’s awesome and it works.
Third time around—and maybe it was second, first or fifth for you—you get the sense that when Paul is talking about the raising of the dead that he’s talking about the lifting of our souls from being dead and defeated by the trials of this world.
I’ve seen people come to Christ…but never physically raised from the dead…Yet, in another sense, I have. I’ve seen them raised to life when the hope of Christ was realized. Lives that had no direction, no optimism, no joy suddenly lit up and began to believe the best was possible.
We can have bad days but as long as we are in Christ, we cannot have bad lives.
This should cause us to smile and to never allow the world to overwhelm us.
