Scripture For The Day:
“And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”—Romans 20:22-24

Paul explains in this passage exactly what our task is. Our task is testifying about the gospel of God’s grace. Nothing else is of higher importance. For Paul, especially when you think of his background and the station in life he came from, this his motivation. He remembers and, as he articulates in scripture, fully recalls what he once was.

We all remember what we once were…and…if we are looking for a good analogy. Think about your children, or the children, perhaps, that you’ve been given stewardship of. What else matters more than their happiness and safety? Our life?—So important to us in you youth—Our life is forfeit in the matter of achieving this goal/task.

When I read, when I pray and, mostly, when I worship…I am reminded of what I once was and that I was redeemed. I haven’t faced prison, but hardship? I’ve faced some, but I’ll gladly face both because of the life given to me by God. The task? I will testify to the gospel of his grace…Absolutely.
